Here are 5 steps you can take in advance to fearlessly meet crowds of online shoppers in your store. 1. Do a load testing
The first thing to start with in eCommerce is load testing. Load test will show if your server can handle the expected load. To do this, you need to make preliminary calculations based on the example of past years and estimate how many visitors can visit your website at the same time without any problems. If you have a system administrator, then most likely he knows how to conduct such testing. If not, you may try a free testing service to deal with this task, for example JMetre. Option 2: Horizontal scaling
With horizontal scaling, the number of processes sessions is increased by adding new servers to the existing ones. However, to use such a solution, the system must be able to work not on a single server, but on a cluster. If there were no such requirements for your system before, then it will be difficult to implement horizontal scaling on your own in a short time - you will need to rebuild the system, since you need a general synchronization of the cluster components and a load balancer on all or individual network nodes.
Option 3: Involve IT Infrastructure Architects
The involved infrastructure specialist can analyze the current architecture of the service and prepare a work plan for scaling it for high loads. For example, an architect may choose a multi-cloud strategy - a combination of resources from several cloud providers that can be integrated with each other. This infrastructure construction makes it possible to choose the most optimal set of functions that will suit a specific task and a specific type of load. This is the most advanced option but it requires investments in infrastructure and extensive preparation.
4. Speed ββUp Content Loading

To speed up the loading of content on pages, you can connect a Content Delivery Network (CDN). When visiting the website during the sale, customers will receive information not from your server, but from the one that is part of the CDN network and is closer to them. Due to the reduction of the route between the server and the user, the data on the site is loaded faster. CDN not only increases the speed of page loading, but also significantly lightens the load on the main servers.
